YOU WILL PROBABLY NEED TO LEAVE A MESSAGE.
I AM IN PRIVATE PRACTICE.
I AM ACCEPTING SUBOXONE PATIENTS.
I PRESCRIBE SUBOXONE AND DO SUPPORTIVE THERAPY TOGETHER.
I DO NOT JUST PRESCRIBE SUBOXONE ALONE.
IT IS REASONABLE TO LOOK TO STAYING ON THE DRUG FOR 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR OR LONGER.
THE NORMAL COURSE OF EVENTS IS AS FOLLOWS:
- 1 HOUR INTERVIEW TO DETERMINE APPROPRIATENESS.
- IF APPROPRIATE, A PRESCRIPTION IS GIVEN AND YOU RETURN THE NEXT DAY WITHOUT HAVING USED ANY OPIATE AND YOU
TAKE SUBOXONE IN THE OFFICE AND ARE MONITORED FOR 2 HOURS
- YOU RETURN THE NEXT DAY.
- IF EVERYTHING HAS GONE WELL I SEE YOU IN A WEEK AND THEN IN ANOTHER WEEK.
- AFTER THIS I SEE YOU ABOUT TWO TIMES A MONTH.
- NOTE WELL: I AM NOT ACCEPTING ANY INSURANCES AT THIS TIME,PUBLIC AID OR OTHERWISE. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE COST OF THE DRUG WILL NOT BE COVERED. AGAIN INSURANCE USUAL DOES COVER MEDICATION.
SUBOXONE IS A MAJOR ADVANCE IN TREATMENT BUT IT DOES NOT WORK ON ITS OWN AND MUST BE PART OF AN OVERALL PLAN.Suboxonxone (Buprenorphine ) in all of its forms is rivaling methadone in the treatment of opiate addiction. Since this has happened rather quickly it is too early to say with certainty the overall value of what is going on. I am viewing things with caution. One thing for certain is much good is being done but I can only see that there are also many down sides to this phenomena. In the history of medicine there have been few if any "wonder" drugs and this will turn out to be no exception. 1) It is an addicting drug and it is reported in some articles that up to 50% of doctors are not informing patients that it is addicting. 2) There is a great deal of miss information and profit mongering in the business as unfortunately as has always been the case society needs scapegoats and "addicts" are a convenient scapegoat and so many feel that you are to "blame" for your plight and therefore there is nothing at all "wrong" with gorging you for a "cure". 3) There are too many treatments that, for me, are blatantly advanced through false advertisement of virtual guarantees of cures in a few days for one type of treatment or other "cookie cutter" approaches of six week "cures" with seeing physicians once or twice. Myself?? As they might say in the movies I am just a "country doc tryin' to use some common sense." It takes any of us a long time to develop habits, good ones and "bad" ones. How long to become a halfway decent swimmer or tennis player? Well, how long and hard to become a decent junkie? The point is a lot of damage was done. A pill is not going to solve the problem overnight or in six weeks. I have never seen it. Buprenorphine /Suboxone can be and often is an amazing drug to give you a lot of breathing room. It stabilizes you. It gives you a great deal of freedom form all the pain and agony of the "hustle" and ritual of searching for the fix be it hydrocodone or "china white". It also stays around in your blood stream a few days so if you really have the urge to use (which after a while you should have less and less of) you should be able to resist and even if you do use the effect will probably be nothing as you will still have enough bupernorphine in you to block the opiate. This is where doing some hard work in therapy comes in and the more work you do the quicker you work things out and the quick you get off everything and the cheaper the whole deal will be in the long run. This is a link to a CBS news spot about Suboxone. It has some good graphics and a testimonial. Several caveats it states that any Family Doctor can prescribe it and it makes it sound like it is still being studied and not available. Neither of these is true. You can get it form your doctor if he or she has a special license and it has been available for about five years. I am sure there are special studies going on. Makes you wonder about our "major" news sources and their accuracy! The Link
